Improving our writing - Explanations
Over the past few weeks we have been exploring effective explanations.
We have been reading explanations. *Deconstructuring explanations. Creating our own success criteria for a successful explanation. We have also looked at how to *level other explanations in order for us to gain a better understanding of what we need to do to our writing in order to ‘make it better’ We have used digistore for an animated explanation and had guided reading sessions.
We also created Venn diagrams in order to determine our next steps.
Below in the photos you will see:
- Students *deconstructing a *level 4 explanation together and alone.
- Students writing their own explanations.
- Reading explanations, discussing in groups various features of an effective explanation eg. technical vocabulary
- Students leveling explanations and deciding what level they are working towards.
- Guided reading to improve understanding of the features of an explanation.
- Discussions
- Leveling their own work both with criteria and with an *exemplar
- Expected writing levels
- A example of student work (a Venn diagram)
*Deconstructing. - Looking closely at an explanation, highlighting and listing features
*Levels - It is expected that a student should be writing at level 4 by the end of year 8
*Exemplar - A piece of work at a particular level eg. level 4.
